Providing family partners to refugee families – Approximately 80 volunteers have partnered with 40 families helping to navigate school registration/communication; answer questions about bills, make doctor’s appointments, take the families on outings, and be a friend and navigator. Many of the families have become self-sufficient in these areas, but there are always questions to be answered or resources to share. Volunteer Orientations are held 4 times year.
We currently work with 25 Syrian Families, 4 Kurdish Families, 1 Ugandan Family, 1 Somalian Family, 1 Congolese Family, 1 Iraqi Family on trying to help them address their individual needs.
We have received tickets for Family Concerts at the Symphony, summer musicals at The Muny, Cardinals baseball, rock wall climbing, Boo at the Zoo, Circus Flora, Forest Park paddle boats, the MO Botanical Garden and the Magic House. We have also coordinated ice cream socials, a BBQ with water balloon fights, an Arabic Storytime and sing-along. All of these experiences offer wonderful enrichment opportunities to families, especially for the children who are building new lives in America.
