We’re looking for people who want to develop a lasting friendship with a refugee family! Our family partnering program partners volunteers with refugee families.
Our family partner volunteers:
- Are friends and advocates
- Help navigate social and public services in St. Louis
- Assist with budgeting and goal planning
- Enjoy celebrating and leisure activities
The goal of the program is self-sufficiency for the refugee family and lasting friendship between the refugee family and the family partners. Our program started with Syrian families, and five years later, we have many family partners still in active relationship with their Syrian families! Today, our new family partners work mostly with Afghan families.
We have received tickets for Family Concerts at the Symphony, summer musicals at The Muny, Cardinals baseball, rock wall climbing, Boo at the Zoo, Circus Flora, Forest Park paddle boats, the MO Botanical Garden, and the Magic House. Family partners also celebrate birthdays and holidays with their refugee family. All these experiences offer wonderful enrichment opportunities for families, especially for the children who are building new lives in America.
A family partner commits for one year with their family and often spends up to 20 hours a month with their family.
Our family partners have a lot of support, we have two staff members dedicated to supporting family partners.
We would love for you to join our family partner volunteer team!
