Event Details

On Wednesday, December 10th. at 6 PM, St. Pius V Catholic Church in Singler Hall invites you to a Welcome Neighbor STL International Supper Club to support immigrant and refugee families in St. Louis. Enjoy food, conversation, and catching up with friends – old and new. From cultural exchange to just plain fun, look forward to a great evening.

These meals present an opportunity for immigrant and refugee families to share knowledge and skills unique to them. It is also an opportunity for us to get a glimpse into their culture. These fundraising efforts can set them on a path of greater independence and confidence in their lives here in the USA.

In addition to enjoying the dinner, you can also donate food to the St. Pius food pantry – Cereal, particularly oatmeal, peanut butter, hearty soup, pasta, pasta sauce, protein (canned chicken, chili, stew, tuna) OR contribute to Welcome Neighbor STL Unhoused Meal Program using the link at the bottom of the page.

We appreciate your generosity!

The Afghan & Syrian menu is $40 and contains:

VEGETARIAN BOLANI (Afghan):

A Flatbread made of unleavened dough that is stuffed and pan fried, but its real beauty comes from the vegetable stuffing inside. Typically, the dough is stuffed in a variety of ways including mashed potato, or green and red lentils, leeks or chives, or pumpkin.

VEGETARIAN MANTU (Afghan):

Dumplings similar to a wonton dumpling and filled with lentils, tomatoes, onion, coriander, and cumin. Drizzled with yogurt and tomato sauce.

TABOULEH (Syrian):

A finely chopped salad made with parsley, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and bulgur. Mixed with lemon juice and olive oil.

CHICKEN SHAWARMA SANDWICH (Syrian):

Chicken, mayonnaise, and pickles, wrapped in pita bread.

BAKLAVA (Syrian):

A rich, sweet dessert pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped pistachios or walnuts and held together with honey and sugar syrup.
